New Senate Election offers rare opportunity for Western Australians

Western Australia will now be faced with a new Senate Election in the coming months, following a decision by the High Court to void the 2013 Senate Election and end Western Australia’s electoral uncertainty, according to Federal Member for Durack Melissa Price.
“This is an opportunity for Western Australians to reaffirm their desire for a strong Coalition Government and more importantly, to ensure that Western Australia has a strong Liberal voice in the Senate,” Ms Price said.
“Allowing the Senate to be controlled by minor parties who will wheel – and – deal with no cleardirective for Australia’s prosperity should be a concern for all Australians.
“We need strong leadership in the House of Representatives and strong leadership in the Senate, which will not be achieved if the Senate continues on its current chaotic path.
“I encourage all Western Australians to view this election as an opportunity to fight for Western Australia’s interests , by creating a stable Senate with a strong Liberal presence that will be able to work hand – in – hand with our Liberal State and Federal Governments.”
Ms Price said the Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters will be conducting a public hearing in Canberra in early March with Mr Mick Keelty AO APM, who conducted an inquiry into the circumstances of the missing ballot papers.
